Ascent Wows Multitudes At Pro-Life Rally
Written by Michael McDowell
ASCENT WOWS MULTITUDES AT PRO-LIFE RALLY The pro-life rally hosted by Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan on January 21, 2007 was a resounding success in uniting leaders representing several different denominational affiliations, a congressman, survivors of failed abortions and a diverse cross section of supporters. However, the most pleasant surprise of the event was the musical interlude, provided by the highly promising vocal quartet, Ascent. Originally from Iron Mountain, Michigan, the four members of Ascent (Anna, Maria, Angela and Andrea) are also sisters. The four siblings also presently serve as teachers in the Ann Arbor, Michigan school system, which brings an intellectual depth to their musical vision. Favorable comparisons to the Lennon Sisters and Point Of Grace are inevitable. But aside from the sublime vocal harmonies, Ascent's Gospel-inspired sound is very much their own. Ascent already has a live CD to their credit and is in the process of recording a new studio album for Mark Cabrera's Canton, Michigan-based Mediatrix label. And if their brief set at the rally (where they were joined by former police office and labelmate Peter Mulka) was any indication, Ascents forthcoming release should be one of
the highlights of 2007. Watch for them.
